Pancakes, Rainbows and Service

Sunday, August 3

What a wonderfully relaxing Sunday we have had. Our morning began with this team’s favorite breakfast, panqueques (pancakes), and then we traveled to the waterfalls. When you go early in the morning, you miss all the people and get to see the most spectacular rainbows.

We had our first communion service under a small pavilion by the falls. Gale shared with us about how we are all a part of one body, each bringing our own gifts to that body. Our list included compassion, humor, healing, listening, joy, and presence. Each of us was then anointed for our week of service, and presented with a cross. The crosses were made for our team by one of our leaders, Bill Hogan. We were challenged to give our crosses away this week to someone who is the face of Christ for us.

We returned to Alfredo’s House to lunch, finishing our pill counting, packing the bus, and a quick nap. Nury then shared the history of the Friends of Barnabas and the Barnabas House complex. We toured the facilities as she shared stories of those who have benefited from the work done here. We were amazed at the garden, which provides fruits, vegetables and beans for all the teams and the patients who stay at the Barnabas House.

Our day has ended with a wonderful time of food and sharing at a local restaurant. We are ready to follow where Christ leads us this week (Harry’s devotion topic for us this evening). Instructions have been given, tubs packed and ready to go, and we are all excited about getting started.

Blessings on you all! Prayers are welcome!!!
