As I sit here in the hammock in the night air reflecting on our first day, the first thing that comes to mind is fellowship. The team started off the day as acquaintances and strangers and by the end of the day, we joined together for our mission. We prepared medications for the visit to the communities, ate dinner together and then finished off the evening by playing games. The true meaning of why we are here really hit home when we saw two children watching us from afar, squatting under a tree in the pouring rain. The true innocence on their faces filled our hearts with joy. Throughout the day, there were an abundance of emotions from each individual as they start their journeys assisting the Lord in his work. Some of us were nervous, some were excited and many were anxious to see old friends as they returned for another mission trip to Honduras. As we prepare for the week to come by learning others’ names and personalities, we will grow as individuals and as a team.

Today we were awakened by the songs of tropical birds and a gorgeous sunrise. As we gathered around the breakfast table, we started our day with prayer, giving thanks to our Lord for the talents to guide us on this mission. We then ventured out to explore and learn more about Honduras, her people and their culture. We stopped off to have some fun at one of Honduras’ natural beauties -- Pulhapanzak Waterfall -- where many in the group crossed zip lining off their bucket lists. On the trip to the waterfall, we learned how the people of Honduras use their natural resources to assist in their economy.
While at the water fall, the team had our commissioning service, which was a special time for all of us. As we listened to the scriptures spoken and joined together to sing, many of us started to fill up with emotion. There were tears of joy rolling down our cheeks as we all reflected on why the Lord sent us here. While traveling to our destinations, Inventory Coordinator Pedro Lopez explained the purpose of the large cement pipe that carries the water to help supply the electric turbines. Today was not only very informative, but extremely spiritual.
