Saturday & Sunday, August 9 & 10th, 2025
Saturday was filled with delayed flight after delayed flight and airport chaos, but the Joy Brigade arrived safely to the Barnabas House late in the evening (after about 20 hours of travel!). After a quick dinner, we headed off to bed.
After breakfast on Sunday morning, Shirley led the morning’s devotional about how little things can have the biggest impact. She used mosquitos as an example and handed out repellant patches to help us remember!
Afterward, we enjoyed a calm boat ride on Lago de Yojoa, the largest lake in Honduras. Louisa even got to drive! Then, we continued on the move. We stopped at a local market and got many fun treats (there may have even been a special purchase of Dr. Pepper and Coke for those who needed it). The journey continued back at the house with a fabulous lunch by Karen and Albita. Shirley led another devotional about how our lives are like a quilt, and what we see as holes or flaws in our stories are really opportunities for the face of Jesus to shine through us.
Afterward, it was time to prepare the medicine bags and other items that we’ll be dispersing in the villages this week, all to the rhythm of music picked out by Reeves, Shawn, and Francis. It made the work lighter and much more fun!
Our final team member, Maggie, arrived today, just in time for a presentation from Minerva and Fernando regarding our responsibilities for the week. After that, we went out for dinner where we enjoyed a meal while getting to know some of the Honduran staff members. We returned to the Barnabas House, where Peggy anointed our hands. Louisa handed out cross necklaces for each team member to give to someone who touches their heart this week. After the blessing, we read about the community we will be visiting tomorrow and retired for the night.
