Blessed are the Flexible

Honduras Medical Mission Trip – Day 5 Journal - 10/23/25

“Blessed are the flexible, for they shall not be bent out of shape.” - Erin Caldwell, President FOBF

Between the rain and a little community mix-up about the clinic day, we quickly learned the truth of that saying. But by God’s grace, the rain held off, and we were able to have a full and beautiful clinic day! We were able to encounter 47 families in this community!

Our morning began with the joyful sounds of schoolchildren playing nearby, and before we knew it, the close-knit community had gathered—ready, smiling, and eager to be seen.

Pam, John, and Billy had a wonderful day in the dental clinic. Despite the expected nerves, there were hugs and smiles all around after extractions and fillings, especially while Cristina sang her favorite song, “Soft Kitty,” to soothe the little ones.

Pam experienced her Holy Moment today, giving her cross to a young girl who had faced a tough situation but found comfort and trust in our team—just as we are called to trust in our God.

Alan shined again in the eye clinic, seeing a steady flow of patients who were overwhelmingly thankful for the gift of clear vision and the kindness of his care.

Overall in clinic today, Kim, Kevin, and Shirley couldn’t help but remark on how many beautiful children filled this community—so much baby love! Anna, Nareesa, Yolanda, Alvin, Joseph, and JennaLynn welcomed grateful families all day, thankful for the flexibility that allowed us to stay and serve despite the earlier rain and scheduling miscues. The team spent time educating families about hydration, chronic and acute illnesses, injuries, and an unexpected local concern—coffee intake among children. Many children are drinking coffee instead of water due to limited access to clean water and lack of awareness about the health risks. Our team discussed how high coffee consumption can lead to stomach problems, dehydration, and even cardiac issues in young ones.

A huge shout-out goes to our amazing intern PT student, Chloe, whose energy and education have strengthened both our patients and our team. And another to Bunny, our pharmacy hero, who tirelessly keeps our medication and supplies organized and flowing!

We ended the day in celebration—singing Happy Birthday to Yolanda, breaking open a colorful piñata, and sharing cake and laughter as the Honduran sun began to set.

Today reminded us that while plans may shift, God’s purpose never wavers. Flexibility truly is a blessing when our hearts stay focused on serving Him and His people.
