Progress in El Porvenir

Thursday, January 23, 2020

This morning we woke up to beautiful sun and clear skies. It was the first time we were able to see the mountains on our bus ride. The beauty of this country is breathtaking.

This is the 5th year the community El Porvenir has been in the FOBF program, and they will be graduating after one more year. The Trinity team has visited this community for several years. It has been very rewarding to see the progress of the community and watching the children grow. For example, we have seen Maria Elena, a little girl who was burned a little over three years ago in a kitchen fire in the years since her burn. We have seen her scar fade and her become healthier with each trip to the community.

Dr. Kristen gave her cross to Wendy, a five-year-old girl who wants to be a doctor when she grows up. Wendy’s mom said she had a toy stethoscope she plays with and listens to everyone around the house. She also said she wants to learn English and picked up on a few words during our visit.

Virginia saw a little boy who was wheezing very badly today and ended up having four breathing treatments. Despite this, he was incredibly patient and never complained.

Larry worked in the deworming station for his first time in all of his years traveling to Honduras with FOBF. He had one little girl refuse to take her medicine until her dad came, and then she took it. An example of a global phenomenon.

Christina noted that a lot of moms in this community were using filtered water or boiling water before they drink it. This is a good indicator of progress from their health education in this community.

Roger was asked to assist in a dental extraction. He noted that the teeth looked better in this community than in the others.

Louisa gave some crosses to some children who were teaching each other Spanish and English.

Tomorrow will wrap up our week in Honduras. We look forward to one more day of serving in the

mountains.
