Journal 4 - Wednesday
Today was an amazing day, full of laughter, learning and joy as we took the Early Child Development team on the road to one of FOB's partner communities. It began with a rush as we all climbed onto the bus for a long bumpy ride to Las Aguajes. Along the way we saw some breathtaking views of Lake Yojoa and the surrounding villages.
We arrived at the community in good spirits, excited to meet all the families. The amount of families present today was unbelievable - 51 parents and 40 children were present to participate in the program! The day’s activities began with a speech by Dr. Pablo. He spoke with the parents while the rest of the team began to interact with the children (ages 0-13).
The children enjoyed a variety of games such as volleyball, singing, puzzles, books and more. The children’s laughter was contagious and soon everyone was smiling.
Following Dr. Pablo’s speech, we divided ourselves based on age group (0-1, 2, 3, 4 and up) and began to work directly with the parents and their children. The parents were eager to learn about how to play and work with their kids to improve their strength and coordination and motor development, and many were down on the floor playing hands-on with their children. It was really amazing to see this beautiful learning process happen before my eyes.
It was hard to say goodbye, but we hugged and took pictures and then piled back onto the bus in anticipation of our next adventure. Next, we arrived at a local preschool run by a lady named Esperansa. She provided us with an exquisite tour and explained the current curriculum. It was amazing to see the devotion of this wonderful woman who dedicates all of her time and energy to her work and makes a difference in the lives of so many children.
Tired, but with full hearts, we climbed back onto the bus ending our day.
This team is full of many gifted individuals and I am honored to be a part of it. I truly hope to make a difference in the wonderful country of Honduras.
