Terreno Blanco, Taulabe
Team 3 arrived in Honduras Sunday afternoon, and it has been full-steam ahead since touching down. Sunday evening was filled with labeling, bagging and sorting our vitamins and medication to take to this week’s villages. Our Floridians, Jeanna and Carolyn, arrived Saturday afternoon as scheduled, and were kind enough to start the bagging process without us.
We were blessed with an incredibly delicious dinner of sautéed tilapia with veggies. The ayote (sort of a mix between zucchini and butternut squash) was a major hit, finished with a decadent pineapple, cinnamon pudding—suffice it to say we will enjoy full stomachs to match our full hearts this week.
Most of the team soaked up a good night’s sleep, and Monday breakfast started with smiles and mail from home. Bonnie inspired us with a morning devotion, and we enjoyed a round of “This is the Day/Este es el Dia” sung by US and Honduran team members. We are grateful for an energized team, because what a full village we had for a Monday! New team members, Carolyn and Tammy, were introduced to the medical clinic today, and they fell right into a groove. Laura, another new team member, confidently used her Spanish to translate for Nurse Robin at her clinic station.
Bonnie introduced a story ministry and soon found herself surrounded by children ready to read and share stories and songs all day long. She acted out the story of Billy Goat’s Gruff using charming props found in the courtyard. Team 3 brought felt-board Bible stories, enough to leave one with the teacher in each village, and they were a hit!
Nury shared Honduran culture with the team by inviting a three-man Marimba band to the Alfredo House. We enjoyed our flan al fresco while listening and dancing to the sounds of authentic Honduran music. The band let some of the team members try out their marimba, which was quite the treat.
