Instruments of Your Peace

Honduras Medical Mission – Day 6 Journal 10/24/25

“Lord, make us instruments of Your peace,

Where there is hatred, let Your love increase,

Walls of pride and prejudice shall cease…”

Instruments of your Peace

By: Kirk Dearman and Deby Dearman

Today, those lyrics echoed through our hearts as we moved through the clinic and community—reminding us why we came, and who sent us. One by one, we became peacekeepers in action. Each patient we met carried their own burdens—some visible, some unseen—but through every touch, smile, and prayer, we felt God using us as His instruments of peace.

Just as the song says, “where there is hatred, we will show His love; where there is injury, we will never judge; where there is darkness, we shine His light.” We saw that lived out in every corner today. We rocked fussy babies, played games with the children, chased bubbles and filled the clinic with laughter. We listened to the stories and stresses of hardworking parents and spent time with the elderly, offering comfort that only comes from genuine compassion.

Our team shared tears and laughter with many today and this week; each encounter seemed to present a new opportunity to give of ourselves to reach those around us.

Healthy children make healthy communities—and every deworming tablet, every fluoride treatment, every medicine given, every medical education given, every hug shared with a child was an act of hope. The smiles of the little ones reminded us that peace often begins in the simplest gestures of care.

These communities live in survival mode—day in and day out. Yet, their resilience humbles us. We came here to serve, to help others—but in truth, this place has changed us. It has stripped away our distractions, reminded us of what matters most, and filled us with a deeper understanding of peace—the kind that only comes from God. Our final supper table was replete with compassionate anecdotes, observations and reflections. After some final devotional thoughts, each of us took opportunity in turn to share with passion, resolve and heartfelt gratitude our summary of the week's events. Almost without exception, team members' tears flowed and we felt a collective closeness and familial cohesion. God has truly been good to our team this week!

As the sun set behind the Honduran hills once again and our familiar evening rain began, the refrain echoed once more in our hearts:

“Where there is sadness, we will bear their grief… to the millions crying for release, we will be Your instruments of peace.”

And this week . . . we were!

It's not goodbye- it is See you later- Honduras!
