Our team had another wonderful day serving community members in Honduras. Despite the heat and humidity, we were able to serve a large number of families today. We were astounded by the determination of the people who came seeking help. Many families walked long distances over difficult terrain to reach the clinic. Parents carried young children, families faced high levels of heat walking in the sun, and an elderly woman walked over rocky roads and steep hills with a cane. All arrived together with hope that they would finally receive the care they needed from Friends of Barnabas volunteers.

Throughout the day, families waited patiently for their turn to be seen. Some came for chronic health concerns, while others needed dental care, eyeglasses, medications, or simply reassurance and education about their health. Despite facing significant hardships, nearly everyone greeted us with warmth, gratitude, and kindness.

Beyond the medical care itself, there was something deeply meaningful about being present with the community—listening to stories, sharing smiles, playing with the children, and acknowledging the dignity of each person who came through the clinic. One team member shared a heartbreaking story of a child separated from her mother who must seek work outside of the country in order to provide food for her daughter. Our team member prayed over the child and her grandmother, reminding them of God’s constant presence and love.

We are all so grateful for the opportunity to serve with Friends of Barnabas, knowing these families will continue to receive care even after our team returns home. Our experiences this week have reinforced how fortunate many of us are to have ready access to healthcare and how important it is to continue working toward greater health equity around the world.
