It was a typical start to the day with breakfast at 6 and the bus fired up at 6:30 sharp. In just under two hours, we reached our destination of Santa Fe Abajo, Jesus de Otoro, Intibuca.
Santa Fe is divided into upper and lower districts. The upper district is wealthier and is inhabited by many decedents of the Lenca tribe. Lower Santa Fe has a population of approximately 700 people, with 150 families in 90 homes. Most of the homes are made of adobe and 50 of the homes have dirt floors. All the workers are in agriculture. The most common health issues in the community are hypertension, diarrhea, diabetes, and respiratory conditions.
Claire greeted the community with Haven handing the translation. She closed with a prayer and the community responded with a round of applause, and we were off and running.
The medical clinic served a family that included a child who was diagnosed with a cardiac condition recently by the Friends of Barnabas. The mother went on and on about how this service has changed her family's life and was ever so thankful.
This particular community was seen by FOBF last year which kept things flowing in dental, vision and parasite control. Overall, another successful day for the team and beautiful scenery along the way as you will see with attached photos.
