Today the July team was privileged to serve the community of Las Delicias. They are an agricultural community, and 30% of the families are of indigenous (Lenca) descent. There were two lovely huts built on the school grounds to celebrate indigenous people's day coming up on July 20.
Miriam (a pediatrician) thought she had set a record today with the most “chief complaints” for a single patient, but Janet (an adult NP) pointed out that it was like any other day in an adult clinic. Phil enjoyed seeing two little sisters showing such love for each other. They were clearly their mother’s pride and joy. Mary Michael discovered that two-month-olds are multilingual when she heard one saying “Ah-goo” while smiling at his mother.
They were a healthier community than others we had visited this week as evidenced by the dental clinic AND referrals finishing before medical clinic. There’s a first time for everything!!
A word to the wise: take it from John. Don’t wear your hilarious mustache too long.
