Laguna del Jicaro

Today was a wonderful day filled with laughter, smiles, and a bumpy journey to Laguna del Jicaro. We started our day out earlier than usual because of the long drive to this mountain community. Views were stunning as we bumped along the narrow road up the mountain.

When we got there, we unloaded the bus, with the assistance of the community. They had already set up the school in preparation for the clinic. We saw over 30 families!

Our team members were incredibly busy today! Janet and Ethan shared about the success of treating a woman and her grandchildren who needed protein, and the discovery of a cow. Lots of team members, including Emberli, Catherine, and Sarah got to hold many healthy babies! Danielle was excited about being able to sit in with the nurses and help with assessments, while Jess was very busy educating patients with deworming medications. Bill was pleased at the teamwork today, while Patti read to children. Sharon and Amy rocked the day with great catches and diagnoses on patients to get them more consistent care with Healthy Kids, another FOB initiative.

Although temperatures were high and we were certainly sweating, it was amazing to see so many community members excited to see us and so kind, humble, and welcoming. We ended the day with ice cream, spaghetti, and stuffed squash! We are excited visit another community tomorrow.
