This morning the American and Honduran teams shared a special breakfast, and Joseph provided the devotional with a special prayer, “We plant the seeds that one day will grow. We water the seeds already planted, knowing that they hold future promise. We lay foundations that will need further development. We provide the yeast that produces far beyond our camp abilities. We cannot do everything, and there is a sense of liberation in realizing that. This enables us to do something, and to do it very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way, an opportunity for the Lord’s grace to enter and do the rest. We may never see the end results, but that is the difference between the master builder and the worker. We are workers, not master builders; ministers, not messiahs. We are prophets of a future not our own. Amen.”

Today we drove to the community of La Virtud, established in 1961. This community has a population of 1200 inhabitants, 170 families, and 150 homes. Water access is located from a spring 9 kms away.  Families have access to electricity, cell service, and television service. A midwife lives in the area and the families in this area grow coffee, corn and bananas in small quantities.

Today Yolanda and Dale noticed a high incidence of obesity in the babies. Nareesa, Jessica, Shirley, and Joseph noticed severe health issues, such as eye conditions, diabetes, and hypertension.  Shirley was grateful to have extra time to spend with patients and complete a thorough health history on them. Matt, Anna, and Billy noticed poor dental care in this community and many children needed further education on dental hygiene. John and Cristina were impressed by a group of sisters who supported one another. One of the sisters had cleft lip repair and the other two sisters were supportive and protective of her. Lastly, Alvin noted that this community seemed to have access to more resources than other communities we’ve seen this week.

Yolanda closed the day with a final evening devotional. “God is always available to us without hesitation, so always call on Him on all occasions."
