La Aguita

Today started with American and Honduran team's introductions and a devotional by Shirley. The devotional stated, “The pressure of keeping it all together is often too much on on us. You need to remember, we are all in this together, and together we are stronger. You also need to remember, we can’t rely on our own strength alone, even together. God is the one who takes care of binding us through tough times. He is the one who holds all things together.”
We followed team introductions with a short ride to La Aguita, Peña Blanca, Cortes. The community has 600 inhabitants living in 120 homes, some of which are uninhabited. Many homes have indoor wood stoves for cooking, all have electricity, and the community’s water source is a spring located 7 kms away. This community was in the program with FOBF and graduated in 2023. This was an opportunity to assess the retention of knowledge and re-evaluate the community.
The clinic was opened with a greeting prayer by Cristina. Alvin and Matt were very moved after visiting a home of one of the local residents and Alvin noted how grateful we are to have the things we do. Overall the team noted how small the working space was. Although the space was very crowded, everyone noted how well we worked together and around one another to deliver optimum care.
Matt gave his cross to the dentist, Dr. Ondina, who is exceptional in her work and communication with patients. Joseph gave his crosses away to patients who touched him spiritually.
The day concluded with a devotional by Joseph. He read from Romans 12, verses 1 and 2. “I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
