El Cacao

Friday, August 15, 2025

Today marked our final community visit of the week, which left bittersweet feelings amongst the team. This morning’s devotional was given by Yolanda. She talked about the way we only see one piece of a situation, but God always knows the whole picture.  He sees how all things work together. She reminded us to trust in His plan, even when things don’t quite make sense.

Today’s community was El Cacao, Santa Rita, Yoro. Some team members were privileged to have visited this community in August 2024. Yolanda was touched to see her own name in some of the patients’ records.

Today was filled with many beautiful moments:

April led this morning's opening speech and was able to express that her church is in partnership with this community.  Shirley cared for a boy with a “caved-in” chest.  He was referred.  Erin had the opportunity to reassure a 19-year-old mother who was worried about her baby’s progression. Erin applauded the woman’s advocacy for her son.

Shar was approached by a young boy in search of a cross necklace to give to his younger sibling. Lillie and Shawn drew hopscotch with sidewalk chalk and enjoyed watching the kids jump around. There was also a moment when all the children paused their other games to band together and pop bubbles!

As Frances said after dinner, “The days were long, but the week was short.” The week was wonderful, and we all wish it didn’t have to end. We have loved spending the week here at Alfredo House and are so blessed to have had the opportunity to serve God’s people together.

It was truly an unforgettable week, and many of us can’t wait to return!

—Alex and Lillie
