Brisas del Campo

Our day started with a team photo and devotional by Anna. “Being a missionary doesn’t mean carrying everyone’s burdens. It means being willing to carry God’s love to them - and trusting Him to carry what we cannot. So as we serve, let’s remember to check our bags. If we find fear, give it to God. If we find exhaustion, give it to God. If we find disappointment, give it to God. If we find people we cannot help, place them in His hands. We don’t have to carry what God has already offered to carry for us.”
The community of Brisas Del Campo is located about 45 minutes from the Barnabas house. It has about 250 inhabitants living in 55 homes. Ninety five percent of those employed work in agriculture. The community water source is a river which is tested frequently for contamination and families do not use purification methods. A typical diet in this community consists of rice, beans, and eggs.
During clinic, Anna noted the differences in developmental stages between babies. Dale and Jessica referred patients with high blood glucose. Shirley, Yolanda, and Nareesa made note of the large number of health issues in the community including obesity and hypertension. Joseph enjoyed being in clinic today and was grateful for the opportunity to see patients. Alvin noted that overall it was great day and didn’t see hypertension in this population like he had seen in previous populations. John enjoyed working in the weights station and Cristina held a reading lesson with a group of children after finishing with her station. Billy helped cover the dental clinic and gave his cross away to a little girl afraid to have a tooth pulled. He noted how resilient the children were in the dental clinic.
The day concluded with a devotional by Shirley, James 1:19 tells us: “My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
