Humbled Hearts in Buena Vista

Travel isn’t always pretty. It isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes it hurts; it even breaks your heart, but that’s okay. The journey changes you, it should change you. It leaves marks on your memory, on your consciousness, on your heart, and on your body. You take something with you and hopefully you leave something good behind.

Today we visited Buena Vista. The community has a population of 350, with 80 houses. Upon our arrival we were met with smiles and many people dressed in their Sunday best. Some families got in line as early as 5:00am in anticipation of our visit.

After quickly setting up seven medical stations, the clinic assessed and treated 222 people, including 32 tooth extractions, and 68 individuals received fluoride treatment. It was a long, hot day but we were so grateful to be there.

Back at Alfredo's House, we celebrated Virginia’s birthday. She takes such good care of us that it was wonderful to surprise her with a cake and flowers.

A delicious meal of fried chicken was shared along with John’s evening devotional. It was a timely reminder that we may be the only Bible that some people ever read. What are we saying with our lives, our actions, our attitudes?

Today’s village was remote – even by Honduran standards. While there, we witnessed many acts of humility. Our hearts were truly touched with the kindness, generosity and love alive in that village.

God sees each of us through eyes of unconditional love, and He loves everyone—it doesn’t matter what they do, where they work, how much money they have, how educated they are or what they look like. We need to do the same. We need to learn to see others as God sees them.

As we prepare for sleep, our humbled hearts look forward to what God will bring before us tomorrow as we travel to Palmichales. Please pray for our team as this will be the first time Friends of Barnabas has ever visited this community. Our expectation is that the need will be great! - April Barber
