Today is Children’s Day in Honduras. From www.google.com/doodles/childrens-day-2015-honduras: “Why we honor Children’s Day – to raise awareness about the possibilities within each and every young person, and how they can improve our world, and ourselves. The potential of children is limitless. Let’s help them achieve their best, so that we, as a society, can achieve ours.”
Wednesday was a busy day, a long day. There were three surgeries at Ruth Paz and two catheterizations at Cemesa Hospital. The last of the team members arrived in San Pedro Sula and two members departed.
Marcos, Gracia, and Jeferson all had surgery yesterday. Marcos is 20 months old, and he had a Tetralogy of Fallot defect. Gracia is 14 months old, and she had a VSD. Jeferson celebrated his 9th birthday in July, and he had Subaortic Stenosis. Subaortic stenosis refers to an obstruction or narrowing at the outlet of the left ventricle just below the aortic valve.
Tuesday’s surgical patients – Astrid, Ashly, and Ashley continue to improve. Astrid is too young to walk the ward; however both Ashly and Ashley took multiple laps multiple times around the halls. Sometimes they seemed happy about it, and sometimes not!
Monday’s patients, Josue and Deysi, are still recuperating. Josue may go home today. Almost two years old, we know when the nurses have him up to walk as we can hear his pleas of “Mama, mama, mama.” Before Deysi’s breathing tube was removed, she managed to suck on her pacifier with the tube in!
And yay, Genesis went home yesterday!

On this Children’s Day, thank you for your support and prayers for these “Little Hearts,” giving them a chance to achieve their best.
