Something good happened today. We began the day with the team breakfast including the Honduran staff. It was great getting to know each other and understanding more about the staff here. We travelled to El Porvenir, San Antonio, Cortes, a new community to FOBF. The clinic saw 202 people, Deworming 106, Eye Clinic 50, and 45 in Dental with 63 extractions. FOBF has a new relationship with Vitamin Angels that helped us provide over 200 people with life-sustaining vitamins.
Theresa made cross necklaces for each team member, which we use to show support and love in the communities. We give a cross to someone who has shown incredible strength, courage, or helpfulness. They inspire us to be better people and we hope to share love, kindness, and prayer with them. Stacey gave her cross to a little sweetie named Claudia. After some encouragement, Claudia was incredibly brave in the dental clinic, and touched Stacey's heart.
The team was happy to learn that the school teacher in El Porvenir requires the children to keep a toothbrush in the classroom. She teaches them to brush their teeth after every meal, and to always wash their hands before eating. These hygiene-focused lessons are not always common here, so we were sure to express our appreciation to the teacher.
In a conversation with the community health leaders we learned the community's main health concern is nutrition education. Each clinic station tries to educate on health and nutrition, and now we feel even more motivated to share as much knowledge as possible.
We ended the day with a devotional from Isaiah 52:7 reminding us of our purpose here, and we are looking forward to having our feet upon new mountains in tomorrow's community.
