An Earthly Mission - Tuesday, April 21, 2026
Today, we had a long 2-hour drive to another small, isolated agricultural community, Macuelizo. Macuelizo has 240 residents in 88 families. Yesterday, in La Germania I, we saw 47 families. Today, it was just over 30 due to a funeral, a reminder of life's realities and challenges.
We set up our medical stations in their sprawling three-room school and campus, including vitals, weights/measurements, vitamins/deworming, and the eye, dental, and general medical clinics.
One child was frightened of going to the dental clinic for an extraction. A team member gave her a necklace with a cross and assured her that God was with her. The girl was reassured and later came out of the dental clinic giving hugs. A sweet baby was also given a cross by another team member for being so good-natured as she waited quite a while for her older sister, who suffers seizures.
As always, the children were a joy to see. They patiently waited for their turns and often helped the younger children. The parents were very engaged with their children and one another and often expressed gratitude to our team. Even the teenage boys and girls played games and jumped rope. A few of the teenagers stayed to help us pack up, a visible sign of the community's gratitude.
The steep dirt road to the community cut through the earth. This evening's devotional included an earthly insight. It was based on the healing of the blind man in John 9:1-7. "By spitting on the ground, Jesus gave part of himself to mix with the earth and all that was wrong with it. He combined a part of his being with the dirt of the world to create a compassionate healing." We are all called to be "Sus Manos," His Hands.
