Lomas del Águila

Monday, August 11th, 2025

We started the day with a devotional from Yolanda about the importance of being flexible, accompanied by a sweet treat of Twizzlers. After breakfast, we dispersed to cover ourselves in bug spray while the medical volunteers met. Before we left the Barnabas House, we got to meet the rest of our Honduran team members. We introduced ourselves and prayed together before loading up the bus and getting on the road.

Today's community was Lomas del Águila, Santa Barbara. The drive was filled with chatter and excitement for the day ahead. After setup, opening, and the reciting of The Lord’s Prayer, we got to work in our respective clinics. Our team was greeted with heart-warming hugs from the children of the village.

Throughout the day, we witnessed a family that traveled two hours to school each day, a two-year-old with a murmur, a young woman with high blood pressure, and more. On another note, we were awestruck by the community’s facilities and environment, as well as the way they leaned on and cared for one another. We were also impressed with how well we meshed as a team! As different clinics finished up, we transitioned to playing with the children, giving out temporary tattoos, and painting nails. The day was over before we knew it!

In the evening, after dinner, we went around the table and shared highlights from the day. Two of our team members were led to give their crosses away today.

Frances was amazed by the progression of the dental clinic since she’d been assigned there years ago. Amazed by the bravery and resilience of a woman who received multiple tooth extractions without shedding a tear, Frances gave her cross to her along with a prayer.

Shirley gave her cross to a lady named Ineta. Shirley was taken aback by her extremely high blood pressure, and even more surprised to hear that she’d stopped taking her medicine. After their consultation, they all prayed together to calm the young lady’s nerves.

Alex led this evening’s devotional after dinner, using the life cycle of a butterfly to remind us that God calls us to be open to change and to trust his plan.
