Today we traveled to Buena Vista, high in the mountains. It rained steadily all day, and clouds surrounded us, but that did not discourage villagers from coming to the clinic. The roads were too muddy and slick to allow for safe passage of the bus, which required the team to hike to and from the bus. Unfortunately, we had to leave the clinic early due to worsening weather.
We saw many patients with significantly elevated blood pressure. Wendy and Linda worked together to identify one patient with atrial fibrillation and another with complete heart block. The clinic space was small, creating extra noise and making examinations challenging, but the team persevered and cared for many people.
Pastoral counseling was identified as an important need. Four individuals received counseling today and were given crosses by Daniel. The only complaint from the team was that there were not enough babies to love on.
Linda gave her cross to an abuela who was deeply concerned about a family member battling sepsis or another serious illness. Keith gave his cross to a child who shared his dream of becoming an engineer.
Looking forward to another adventure tomorrow!
