The Journey of a “Mustard Seed”
This is my very first trip to Honduras with Friends of Barnabas and what a blessing it has already been. Our plane landed just after noon today in Honduras and we then traveled by bus to the Barnabas House. We had a wonderful meal prepared by the staff here and then had a meeting with Nury, the director, to discuss the most important needs of repair for the facilities here.
We had a wonderful devotion in which my heart was touched beyond words. If you are not familiar with my life over the past year my name is Steve Claxton, aka “Mustard Seed” and I was honored to thru-hike the 2,200 miles of the Appalachian Trail through a team effort by Kyle Kirby, Ronnie Dillon and myself to raise funds and awareness for the Friends of Barnabas Foundation.
I traveled to Honduras with the Repair Team from Danville, Virginia. It just so happens that Friends of Barnabas is also hosting another team for a few days this week. A church from Allentown, Pennsylvania wanted to go into the mountains for three days to work as a medical team. They were referred to FOB for their expertise in the area. FOB staff members here are helping prepare them for the work, will guide them in the villages, and will help set up and staff the clinic. Maybe next year, this team will serve as one of FOB’s Mountain Medical Teams.
While the repair team begins their work here at the Barnabas House tomorrow, I will be traveling into the mountain villages to provide assistance to the new team working with children. I am so thankful to be able to experience first-hand the work that this wonderful organization does for the children of Honduras.
My first impression driving through the towns on the way to the Barnabas House today was one of disbelief as to the poverty the people of Honduras live in. Tomorrow will be even more of an eye opener as we travel into the more rural areas of the countryside and into the mountains to a rural village. I feel beyond blessed to be in this country with such a special group of people who give their hearts and talents to provide health care to the children here. I am so excited to visit with the children tomorrow and to feel a connection between our hearts. I truly believe it will be a life changing experience I will never forget and one in which God is in total control. Thank you Friends of Barnabas for coming into the life of a “Mustard Seed” and for making me a part of your wonderful organization!
