Honduras has been a show-off this week. She has shown off her coffee plant-spotted mountains with their blooms and beans. She has shown off her bright blooming flowers in the variety of trees. She has shown off her banana plants with leaves that lift upward in praise of their Creator. She has shown off her people, food and beautiful lake. She has shown us people to love and to whom to give our crosses.
Janet and Amy gave away their crosses to two brave little girls. Janet’s girl was upset following a procedure and Janet wanted to offer her comfort. The cross representing the love of God is the best comfort anyone can offer. Amy’s cross went to a brave three year old who had baby teeth pulled. Although she cried, she was still very brave. Amy explained to the mother the meaning behind the gesture, again, bringing comfort in a painful situation.
With touching stories too numerous to share in a short post, I do want to thank all those who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Without Kevin and David, the clinic would have been chaotic and dysfunctional. They could not have done it without them. Scott worked all day in the clinic, or wherever he was needed, and then worked most evenings trying to keep us connected to the internet at Alfredo’s house. It is because of him that the journals have been sent with most of the pictures. Thank you, Scott!
Janet and Anna shared about their lives in Montana. Anna is one of five siblings adopted from Russia by the grace of God. There were so many things that happened during the adoption process that proved that it was the hand of God allowing it to occur. They are cattle ranchers in eastern Montana and will return to snow on the ground. Their devotion about compassion versus pity reminded us why we are here. We want to do for others who are needy and helpless. I think they have enjoyed their second trip with FOBF and we have enjoyed having them with us.
Eph. 2:8-10 tells us that we are saved by grace and created to do good works. We do not come to do something like this in order to get to God. We do this because God has come to us. He has met our need by being Immanuel, God with us.
Although Honduras has shown off her magnificent beauty, she has also shown off her great need for more people to fill the seats of the big white bus to provide medical services. Her need for medical supplies to fill tubs transported high into her mountains will always be great. Her people have shown us that they will walk great distances to get any help they can, especially for their children and in so doing, Honduras becomes a place that shows off that she has hope for a better future.
Our team will leave tomorrow and have a rest day at the coast before heading home. Since getting to know these friends for the week, I am sure that they will continue the work that they have been doing here. They will spend the next fifty-one weeks and beyond offering compassion and love to anyone in need. They will seek out ways to offer help to those who have no one else to care for them. They will continue to support FOBF in order to help our world become a better place one child at a time.
