The Danville Sus Manos Team is in Honduras!

Sunday, April 21, 2024

Hailing from the Danville and Greater Richmond area, thirteen volunteers comprising the Sus Manos Team flew out in the early morning hours of Saturday, April 20. The team arrived safely in Honduras on Saturday afternoon and were transported to Alfredo House, where we were welcomed by familiar faces and with tamalitos, montucas, and horchata. It is such a pleasure to reunite with the staff here, and we were immediately made to feel at home.

We were introduced to staff and had time to unpack and relax before dinner. We discussed some plans for the upcoming week and had a dinner followed by devotions. Charles led a centering exercise, where we closed out eyes and focused on leaving the stressors of life behind, while preparing our minds and hearts for the week ahead. David H. led the nightly devotion from Isaiah. The theme of the devotion was aptly, “Whom shall I send? Here I am. Send me.”

After a full night’s sleep, the team woke early on Sunday to a delicious breakfast.  We went for an outing to a waterfall, and four team members ziplined over the beautiful waterfall and vibrant rainbow below.

We then headed back to the house for an afternoon of training, counting pills, making toothpaste baggies, and preparing bags to take into the villages in the upcoming week.  The medical team met, and we were all trained on the electronic medical records.  We are very excited to get into the villages and begin our work this week.

The team went out for dinner at D&D, an favorite of veteran volunteers. After dinner, we had devotions and discussed Barnabas, the son of encouragement. We discussed healing and how we can be a source of encouragement, as well as the hands and feet of Jesus as we head into the mountain villages this week. We then anointed one another’s hands with oil and prayed over one another in preparation for the week ahead.  Please pray for our team as we enter into the villages that we will be an encouragement to others and carry out our work to the best our abilities.
