Colonia 3 de Octubre

March 27, 2026

1Peter 4:10

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s

varied grace.

Friday started early with a full Thanksgiving breakfast with Honduran and American staff

together around a long table. The morning prayer before breakfast reminded us all what

a blessing it is to serve together, each using our gifts to provide care for families in

need.

Today we served in the community Colonia 3 de Octubre, a village not too far from

Alfredo’s house. While the weather was cool with fog and misty rain, families were lined

up to greet us as we arrived. Several young boys invited us to play soccer with them

right away. Registration followed quickly and families were seen in all our clinics.

Medical clinic was full of activity, with many first-time visitors to clinic. People were seen

and treated for everything from diabetes and hypertension to down syndrome follow-up

and having to remove some green substance from a child’s ear (perhaps playdoh). One

unfortunate child even threw up on his nurse.

Sarah was moved to share her cross with her first patient of the day. An older woman

who had experienced much loss and heartache over the last year. Her blood pressure

was extremely high. She told Sarah she had been on medication, but hadn’t bought any

more, choosing to instead take care of her family.

Many team members went on a home visit to see an elderly gentleman, who, while

working, fell out of a tree 22 days ago. His wife, who Christina saw in clinic, stated he

was staying in bed all day and experiencing dizziness. Christina, Dr. Sharon, and Dr.

Sue, with the help of Chloe translating, evaluated and treated him, providing pain

medications, appropriate adjustment/muscle massage and education for him and his

wife.

As we returned to Alfredo’s house, we as a team, Honduran and American put forward

our “many hands” as a symbol of our unity in purpose and service to the people of

Honduras.

Later in the evening as we shared the victories and experiences of the day and week.

Dr. Dennis played a photo loop of where he saw God this week. His photo loop included

team members, staff, and community members from our week of service.

We closed our week with communion, as we prepare to travel home with hearts full of

gratitude and deeper recognition of just how blessed we are.

1John 4:12

No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is

brought to full expression in us.
