Prep Day

Sunday, October 19, 2014

The St. Luke's Mountain Medical team awakened this morning to the delightful smell of breakfast! We gathered around the table and discussed the day's activities as we ate. First the team traveled to the waterfall and zip line (for those brave enough!) and then to the grocery store for a few snacks for the week.

We returned to Alfredo's House and began setting up for the afternoon task of sorting and counting pills and preparing other supplies for the week ahead. Had a yummy lunch and assembled outside on the porch. We shared stories had a few laughs and bagged pills, vitamins, toothbrushes, toothpaste, cloth diapers, flip flops and various other supplies for our daily trips into the villages. The team loaded everything onto the bus and took a few moments to enjoy the breeze on the porch.

Before dinner we toured the grounds and learned the history of how Friends of Barnabas began. Hearing how we, along with many teams before us, have touched the lives of the Honduran people is simply breathtaking. We look forward to our first day in FOB’s partner communities.

The team had dinner at the D&D Brewery owned by Virginia native, Bobby Durrette. We dined outside while the rain fell around us.

Once back at Alfredo's House, the team shared nightly devotions which included a foot washing service. Pastor David Westmoreland reminded us that servanthood is “washing feet,” whether we physically wash someone's feet, offer a hug, or give deworming medicine to a child. Whenever we show the love of Christ to someone, we are washing feet. The evening concluded with communion.

Excited about what The Lord has done, is doing, and will do.
