Our day was spent in the indigenous village of La Sorto. They welcomed us with open arms, literally. Today we wanted to share the perspective of two of our newbies, both Longwood nursing students volunteering their time to serve.
"My time in Honduras this week has been an amazing experience because I feel I have touched the lives of so many people by providing help for them. I have never been on a mission trip before, so this opportunity to be a member of the mountain medical team has been an eye opening experience for me. I wanted to come on the trip to be able to help people who desperately need the assistance of outsiders in order to remain healthy or regain their health. I have greatly enjoyed my time in the medical clinic by helping with patient assessments and medication distribution. I feel that I have learned a lot and made a difference for those people that I have served."
"As a nursing student I have been given the opportunity to work with a variety of people from infants and children to the very sick, as well as the elderly living in nursing homes. However, in all of my experiences I have never had the joy or privilege of meeting those quite like the people of Honduras. Aside from the valuable medical knowledge I have gained this week I have also grown in my understanding of how others live and the happiness that exists across the country of Honduras. My time here will always be something I remember and hopefully I will return again soon."
