East Coast Servants of Christ
Saturday, May 18, 2019
Our day began very early as we gathered at the Richmond Airport at 5:00 a.m. for our 7:00 a.m. flight. Two members of the team traveled from Arizona and met us in Miami and one traveled from Georgia and met us in San Pedro Sula. It is exciting to have 9 team members who have never been to Honduras. We had one team member who had never flown. There will be a lot of “firsts” this week.
We were warmly welcomed by the Honduran staff and got settled into our rooms at the Alfredo House. After dinner, Michael shared a devotion and reminded us that Jesus said “the Kingdom of God is within you so look around and He is there.”
We are enjoying making new friends and bonding as a team that have come to Honduras as servants of Christ. We are so grateful to our family and friends who have supported us in our journey to Honduras. Please continue to pray for our team and the people of Honduras.

Today’s devotion came from John 13:3-17. “Servants are not greater than their master nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them.” Michael led our cross ceremony where each team member was given a blessing and a cross that can be given away during our week here.
The day began with a trip to the Botanical Gardens where we saw many beautiful plants and flowers as well as a blue lagoon. To access the lagoon, we hiked up a mountain. We encountered what the tour guide said was a prehistoric Fern Palm Tree that was about 2,000 years old. It only grows 1 inch per 100 years. There was also a bamboo tree which although only 15 years old is much larger than the bamboo in the U.S.
After visiting the local super market we toured the cacao farm where they shared with us the history of cacao in Honduras. Cacao has been said to be from South America, then Mexico, but it has been proven to have originated from Honduras.
After returning to the Barnabas house and eating lunch we sorted the pills that will be distributed to the communities throughout the week, as well as mixed together toothpaste. Dinner was at D&D Brewery where we celebrated one of our team member’s birthdays. Tomorrow the real work begins, and with 9 new members on our team, there is much anticipation.
