Time is Passing Quickly!

December 5, 2013

Wow! We are rapidly moving toward the end of our mission...so much has been accomplished, but there's so much yet to be done. Many of us are already making plans for next year's repair team and what will need to be repaired.  Those of us who are retired can easily sacrifice these days. However I look at someone like Ben and think what a great sacrifice he has made to be away from his family; fortunately, he is able to Skype often.

What a productive, yet somewhat challenging day. The sunrise was breathtaking this morning as each group began their assigned jobs. As many of you know, sometimes in Honduras, you can take two steps forward and slide one step back. The team at the Barnabas House completed projects and also started new ones. There is so much to be done and our time is coming to an end. Also, most supplies are readily available for purchase in the states, but often they are not available in Honduras and so we must rethink what we are doing and how we are doing it.

The Buena Vista group returned this evening rejoicing...the home has interior doors as well as electricity. Ector, the youngest boy, was so excited to have a room to share with his brother and the room has a door! He must have opened and closed the door a hundred times! Each room now has lights; I cannot imagine how exciting it must be to have electric lights for the first time. How many times have we lost electricity for only a few hours and complained; in Honduras, you realize how spoiled we are. The only thing left to do is pour the floors and then the family can move into a warm, comfortable, and electrified home.

Today's challenges remind me of Philippians 4:6 (Good News Bible): "Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart."

By the way, the Honduran gentleman has recovered enough that he was climbing an orange tree today to gather oranges for the workers...thank you for your prayers.
