Cheerful Attitudes

"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as though you were working for the Lord and not for men." Colossians 3:23

Each day, I observe Margarita, the "chef," and Sandra, the "sous chef," at the Alfredo House. These two wonderful ladies arrive daily around 4:00 am and leave around 8:00 pm. During this 16 hour day, they cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for 16+ people; it's all very delicious, I might add. They also prepare a lunch (put in a cooler) for the home building team. Dishes are washed after each meal, all dorm rooms are cleaned in the Alfredo House, bathrooms are scrubbed, beds are made, floors are cleaned and mopped often as the repair team is in and out of the house with dirty shoes and boots all day long. When the team comes from the building project, they bring muddy clothes that need washing. Sandra also does laundry for the 14 person mission team.

These tireless women have fresh coffee waiting on the counter all day, when you set your cup down it is picked up and washed before you can remember where you put it. They greet you in the morning with smiles on their faces and cheerful attitudes. Often they are singing familiar hymns, naturally in Spanish, but we recognize the tune and sing along in English. Wouldn't it be wonderful if all of us could love our work as they do...I must say their attitude is contagious.

A small team went back to the house project today and added a shed roof over the washing area, stuccoed the openings between the roof and walls, installed the electric meter, cut squares into the floor and cleaned the yard. On the home front, we lost power around 9:00 am so the day moved slowly. There was only one small generator and by afternoon we had run out of water, so things really slowed to a crawl. With the temperature around 95 degrees, we all got a little lazy! The electricity is back on and all is well.

"Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to earn your own living, just as we told you before. In this way you will win the respect of those who are not believers, and you will not have to depend on anyone for what you need."

1 Thessalonians 4:11-12

Thanks for all your prayers.
