Who We Are |
| |
| Who
Was Barnabas? |
|
- "For instance, there was Joseph, the one the apostles nicknamed
Barnabas (which means 'Son of Encouragement'). He was from
the Tribe of Levi and came from the Island of Cyprus. He sold a
field he owned and brought the money to the apostles for those in need."
Acts 4:36,37 (NLB)
- Barnabas was a very early convert to the new religion of
Christianity, probably around the time of the Pentecost (29 or 30 AD).
Upon his conversion, he immediately sold his property and devoted the
proceeds to the church. For this and like acts, he was renamed Son
of Encouragement.
Christianity would likely be very different today were it not for
Barnabas' influence of the early Church - as he introduced Saul (soon to
be Paul) to the Apostles. Paul and Barnabas were soon partners in
mission, spreading the word of Christianity throughout the Roman world.

| Who
are The Friends of Barnabas? |
- Anyone who gives of himself or herself to help others is a 'Friend
like Barnabas.'
|
| |
| What
does The Friends of Barnabas Foundation do? |
- There are two separate portions of the above scripture from Acts
that we focus on. The word 'encouragement' is the first, for we
desire to enable those who want to be volunteers in mission to realize
their wish. We also know the importance of the last verse, the
call to use our blessings to help others. There are three major
phases to our work:
|
|
- The first is Local Action. We want to help you
help those needs that you witness in your community every day. Do
you know of a family who spend all of their income on food, heat, and
medications - while having to watch their home collapse around them?
The Friends of Barnabas Foundation is here to help you repair their
home. We will supply funds for materials and coordinate labor from
local churches.

Repair.

The second phase of our work is national in scope - Disaster
Relief. The Friends of Barnabas Foundation desires to have
a team of workers ready to respond to catastrophic situations. Our
Disaster Relief work is threefold: locating people in need,
organizing work teams, and funding material needs.

- Our international work is the third and largest phase of The
Friends of Barnabas Foundation. Close to our heart is our work in
Honduras. The mountains of central Honduras are one of the
most beautiful places on the entire earth. Sadly, they are also
one of its poorest places. We send a team of American medical
professionals and laypeople to the mountains every month to take needed
medicines and hope to families living in poverty. With our simple
work, lives are being saved every day.
