El Cajon

One of FOBF's base of operations in central Honduras is at the Honduran National Power company's (ENEE) compound at El Cajon, west of Santa Cruz de Yojoa.  Teams stay at the Morazon hydroelectric dam compound, and travel to villages bordering the lake during the day.  These are some of the most remote areas that our teams travel to, often using the following forms of transportation in the same day:  bus, boat, mule, foot, and truck - repeating the list in reverse order in the evening.  ENEE dammed three rivers to create this lake in the early 1980's - a necessary act for power generation that also isolated many people living in the area.  ENEE feels responsible for the people of its watershed and is a great partner in the work that we do.  Together, we are making a difference!
